Desktop app
Surfaces: desktop app (Mac). The same workspace is available in the web app and from the CLI
The desktop app is a Mac application with two jobs: setting kcap up on this machine, and giving you a workspace for driving hosted agents and keeping an eye on sessions and pull requests. It talks to the same workspace the web app does, cloud or local
What you can do
Section titled “What you can do”Set up kcap. The first run is the setup wizard: choose cloud or local, sign in, pick which agents to store and which get tools, choose your default audience, import history, and let the app run the daemon as a background service and put kcap on your path. The steps are in Install kcap
Run and talk to an agent. Each hosted agent is a chat tab. Type a prompt, attach files by dropping them in, queue more prompts while the agent is working, and interrupt a turn that is going wrong. Claude and Codex agents can also show a terminal. The tab shows one status word per agent: working, waiting, idle, interrupted, resuming
Answer what needs you. Permission requests, questions an agent asks, launch approvals for other people’s requests and lifecycle prompts arrive as cards. A tab with something waiting carries an attention badge until you reply
Follow sessions and pull requests. The rail on the side lists live sessions and recent ones, the pull requests from your repositories with their state, and documents an agent wrote. Who is on each item is shown as initials
Open the web app. Help and support (the question-mark button) → Open dashboard opens your workspace in the browser. On the local edition the same entry starts the server first when it is stopped
Read and publish Pages. The Pages tab lists the Pages you published and the ones shared with you
Keep things running. The app keeps the daemon service alive, restarts it when idle after an update, and resumes hosted agents that were running when it restarted. The app updates itself; see Keep kcap up to date
Settings
Section titled “Settings”Settings (⌘,) holds the profile the app uses, the daemon service, and notification options. Your account and preferences says where everything else lives
Help me get unstuck
Section titled “Help me get unstuck”The app says kcap isn’t available on this machine. The CLI is not on your path. Open the setup wizard again from Help and support → Set up, and accept the offer to link kcap into /usr/local/bin
An agent I started from the browser isn’t in the app. The app shows agents on daemons this machine can see. Give it a moment to reconnect, or check Agents in the web app to confirm the daemon is online
A permission request never appeared. Requests answered in the terminal are retired from the app too; if the agent is running in a terminal on the same machine, it may already have been answered there
The app can’t reach the daemon. kcap daemon service status in a terminal shows whether the service is running; kcap daemon doctor reports stale entries. The desktop app can’t reach the daemon has the full list
I set up the local edition and the app shows a recovery screen. The local server did not start. The screen offers to start it again; kcap local status in a terminal explains the state and kcap local logs shows why it stopped. See Local edition
Windows or Linux? The desktop app runs on Apple silicon Macs today, with Windows and Linux to follow. Leave your email on the desktop app waitlist and we will let you know when it is ready for your system. Until then the CLI gives you everything on every system; the steps are in Install kcap
