Work items
Surfaces: web app (Work items) · your agent (declare, attach, break down) · administration (correlation settings)
The web app is at https://<your-workspace>.kcap.ai for a cloud workspace; on the local edition the same pages are served from your machine. The desktop app opens it from Help and support → Open dashboard, and kcap local open opens the local one from a terminal
A work item brings together one effort: the issue, the pull requests, the commits and every session that worked on it, across people and agents. It is a Team and Enterprise feature. Sessions are filed on it by what they did, not by what they mentioned
What you can do
Section titled “What you can do”See everything that happened on a ticket. Work items lists each item with its repository, tracker links, session activity and evaluation summary; filter by In flight, Shipped, Closed, Duplicates or Resolved. Open one:
- Overview: state, who is working on what, parts and blocking relationships, the declared plan, and suggested follow-up
- Activity: the attached sessions and milestones
- Links: shipped and open issue and PR links, commits, and passing references under Also referenced
- Retrospective: evaluation coverage, recurring findings, strengths, suggestions and spend, with copy and slide-deck export
Understand how sessions get filed. A commit whose message names the ticket, or carries Fixes, Closes, a Refs:/Linear:/Issue: line or a trailing (#123), files the session on its own. The session’s opening message, the branch it ended on, or a PR it checked out, merged, reviewed or edited is a hint for AI correlation, which admins can turn on. A PR the agent only viewed, a branch it passed through, or a ticket mentioned in passing is a mention and never files anything. In a review session the PR being reviewed is the work. Commits are credited to the repository git made them in
Tell kcap which ticket you are working on. The surest route is to say so at the start:
This session is for AI-1234. Attach it
An explicit declaration beats correlation and sets the item’s primary issue. issue_key accepts a tracker key, a GitHub issue number in this repository, owner/repo#123, or an issue URL. Parts and dependencies are declared the same way:
AI-1234 breaks into these two tasks; record them as parts. AI-1235 is blocked by AI-1234
Fix a session filed on the wrong item. From the session’s menu on the item: Reassign to another item… or Remove from this item. From your agent, detach the wrong one and declare the right one. A parent/parts relationship is not a way to undo an attachment
Merge duplicates and mark what delivered. The item’s resolve menu offers Merge into another item… and Mark as standalone, which stops automatic merging. If a title-only item gains a tracker-keyed twin, merge into the keyed one. When a PR is mentioned but did not deliver the work, or did and is not credited, Assert delivery PR and Demote delivery assertion set the record straight
Read the retrospective. Once the item’s sessions have evaluations, the Retrospective tab says what kept going wrong, what went well and what it cost, and links to the sessions for the evidence; see Evals
Help me get unstuck
Section titled “Help me get unstuck”My session is not on the item. Nothing filed it: no commit named the ticket and correlation is off or found no evidence. Declare it from the agent; the chain follows
Two items for one ticket. One is title-only and was created before the keyed one appeared. Open the title-only item, choose Merge into another item… from its resolve menu and pick the keyed one; or ask your agent:
Merge this title-only item into AI-1234
A branch name is treated as a ticket. Without a connected tracker, a branch word counts as a ticket only when your team’s commits already use that prefix. Connect Linear under Administration to make it exact. If your team uses a different tracker, ask for it through the Feedback and Support feature (Support) so we know which integration to build next
The item shows private placeholders. Sessions you cannot see still count toward the item but show nothing. Ask their owners to share
