Insights

Surfaces: web app (Insights) · your agent (the analytics tools). Team and Enterprise plans

The web app is at https://<your-workspace>.kcap.ai for a cloud workspace; on the local edition the same pages are served from your machine. The desktop app opens it from Help and support → Open dashboard, and kcap local open opens the local one from a terminal

Insights turns a plain-language question about your team’s stored work into queries over governed views and answers with text, a table or a chart, plus the queries it ran. It reads counts, tokens, cost, timing, tool use, evaluation scores and structure. It never reads transcripts, prompts or message text, and it only counts sessions you can see

Ask a question. Choose a scope, open Insights, and type under Ask anything, or pick a starter. Questions that count, compare or trend work best:

Which repositories had the most sessions last month?

Show daily token usage by developer for the last two weeks

Where did tool calls fail most often this week?

How have evaluation scores changed in this repository?

Say the period and the grouping when they matter. Questions about pull requests, commits or attribution need the source-host integration an admin configures

Read the overview first. The At a glance tiles separate your own activity (Your sessions · 30d, Your cost · 30d) from the team’s evaluation metrics (Team mean eval, Team eval coverage). They use different periods; read the labels before comparing

Inspect an answer. An answer can carry a written explanation, a table or chart, and the query calls behind it. Open the trace when you need to know what was counted or filtered. Cost is estimated from stored tokens and known model prices; a model without a price is unknown cost, not zero

Follow up. Ask in the same conversation to narrow a result or change the breakdown; Start over returns to the landing page

Reuse and share. You asked recently restores a saved answer or reruns it against current data. Copy the written answer as rich text or Markdown, a chart as a PNG with its title and legend, or a table as tab-separated values

Ask from your agent. The same views are available to your coding agent through the analytics tools, so “which models cost us the most last month?” works in a session too

Agent not configured. On a cloud workspace an admin turns the Insights agent on under Administration → AI & models → Insights and chooses a provider; from kcap 1.4 it is on by default where a provider is available. The local edition has no Insights agent: ask your coding agent instead, which reaches the same views through the analytics tools

The numbers differ from the dashboard. They cover different periods. The dashboard’s Your Last 7 Days tiles count the past week; the Insights At a glance tiles count the past thirty days; a question you type covers whatever period you name. Put the same period in the question to compare like with like

The answer is missing people’s names. People are named from their kcap accounts, so ask for the breakdown by developer or by team. A session stored under a machine credential, such as a CI run, has no person behind it. Names on commits and pull requests come from the GitHub connection an admin sets under Administration → Integrations

It will not answer about what someone said. By design. Use Sessions or ask your agent to recall the conversation
