Glossary

Agent, harness, vendor. A coding agent is the program you talk to: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and the rest. Harness is the same thing seen from the inside (its hooks, its tool protocol); vendor is the company behind it. The docs say agent unless the distinction matters

Session. One conversation between a person and a coding agent, stored as it happens

Continuation, chain, meta-session. A resume, a compaction or a /clear starts a new agent session. kcap links the segments of one piece of work into a chain and shows it as one card, the meta-session, with a readable slug. Recap, errors and eval take --chain to cover the whole thing

Hosted agent. A coding agent launched and driven through kcap, on a machine a daemon makes available

Daemon. The background process on a machine that connects it to the workspace and launches agents there

Launch approval. The daemon’s policy for launches other people request through the server: allow, deny, or prompt its owner

Fork. A new hosted agent started from a chosen turn of a session, with the original still running

Flow. One or more hosted agents given roles in a task and run in rounds; a review flow is a working agent plus a reviewer

Participant, reviewer, driver. The roles in a flow: the reviewer reports findings; the driver (your working agent) addresses them

Work item. The effort behind a ticket: issue, PRs, commits and sessions

Loose end. A concrete piece of unfinished work that an agent or person declared, which someone can claim and close

Next work. The ranked feed of what deserves attention, with reasons

Plan. A plan document and task list an agent declared for a session; later sessions can resume it

Outcome. The generated account of what a finished session did and left

Evaluation, judge. A scored assessment of a session on safety, plan adherence, quality and efficiency; the judge is the model that scores it

Fact. A lesson an evaluation retained, with the sessions it was seen in and a weight

Doc, skill, injection. A doc groups related facts into guidance; approving it as a skill installs it for agents to load on demand; approving it for injection puts it in every session start

Memory. Knowledge a person or agent saved on purpose, with a place (repository, project, organisation) and an audience

Page. A self-contained HTML document kcap hosts at a stable URL with an explicit audience. Called an artefact in earlier versions

Scope. The repository, project or everything the web app is showing

Project. A named group of repositories with its own members, on Team and Enterprise plans

Visibility, audience. Who can read a session or page: private, project, organisation, teams and people

Machine. An identity for a CI runner or sandbox, authenticating with a client id and secret

Workspace. Your organisation’s kcap server at https://<org>.kcap.ai, or the local edition on your machine
